THE DARK MILITARY (ROGUE): Short Film Review By Matt Boiselle

Starring: Loren W. Lepre, Bryan Enright, Rosaria Eraso

Directed by: Loren W. Lepre

Back in 2017, Actor/Director/Writer Loren W. Lepre delivered a deranged take on the Halloween night activities of a militant group of dark-web assembled sadists & their assault upon an unsuspecting group of fame-seeking internet competitors. Six years later, Lepre has just offered up a bridge to the second installment of THE DARK MILITARY franchise – serving as part 1 1/2, this is titled ROGUE. Hope everyone’s servers are up to speed as we’ll be testing the depths of online brutality once again.

With part II rolling out in 2024, this short-film takes place 8 months after the events of the original presentation, and the centerpiece is Carter (Enright), a defector of the group who has decided to escape the hostile life and relocate to North Dakota with his love (Eraso). Unbeknownst to the couple, the demented “soldiers” and their enigmatic, yet business-inclined leader, Barabbas (Lepre) have been on their tails the entire time and are planning on a visit to put their former associate on trial.

With a short runtime to work with, Lepre still manages to pack in ample amounts of tense drama & a modicum of gore to appease the hounds. What remains to be seen in part II? Well, we’re all going to have to wait for the final results, but this connective-piece should be more than enough to satiate the savage appetites in the meantime. It’s available right now on YouTube (link below), so hop on over and give it a look.

At the tender age of 6, Matt was indoctrinated into the horror genre by his mother, who asked him to sit down and watch "The Exorcist" with her - ever since then, it's been a blood-soaked, neon-lit, fever dream of an existence. "You don't make horror...horror makes you."

(Can't remember who came up with this quote, but he was probably off-kilter like I am).
