BLOODTHIRST: Movie Review By Matt Boiselle

Starring: Costas Mandylor, Tara Reid, Robert Lasardo

Directed by: Michael Su

The latest crimson-carnival from director Michael Su & The Mahals has just been unleashed upon the masses like a wave of rabid vampire-bats, and we’re here to give you all the lowdown on just how much blood has been shed – better zip up your splashguards, kiddies – this one’s a lock to get messy.

The film, set in an apocalyptic future where both humans and vampires are on the cusp of extinction, follows a mysterious (albeit on the right side of God) fellow by the name of John (played with steely excellence by Costas Mandylor). He’s got an axe to grind with these day walkers and he has no hesitation about cutting them down with zero prejudice. His opposition comes in the deadly-duo of a couple of especially nasty bloodsuckers (Robert Lasardo & Tara Reid) whose game plan is to assess their victims before slaughtering them – almost an undead audition to see who is worthy of restocking the vampire population and saving them from obsolescence. With the odds seemingly against him, John must assemble a rag-tag team of hunters, fighters, bikers and the like to stave off this oncoming wave of sadism and potential captivity.

The first thing that struck me in this presentation was the atmosphere – it’s got all the looks & feels of a dusty, grimy, desolate world – almost as if someone set a nightmare inside a Sergio Leone spaghetti-western. Blood simply looks better being splashed around in the bright sun & this film proves it – the reds clashing with the earth-tones gives the scenes a vibrant awakening. Performances are solid all around from the top three billings, and with some fun supporting work from industry notables such as Sarah French, Elissa Dowling & Eileen Dietz, every corner-turning act was enjoyable as a whole. Overall, I could definitely recommend BLOODTHIRST as a fun-watch for those who like their horror dystopian & deranged – it’s currently streaming now & also available on physical media – make sure to give this one a look.

At the tender age of 6, Matt was indoctrinated into the horror genre by his mother, who asked him to sit down and watch "The Exorcist" with her - ever since then, it's been a blood-soaked, neon-lit, fever dream of an existence. "You don't make horror...horror makes you."
