Horror Author Interview!! Meet Richard Ayre @ayre_richard

Define yourself in two lines.

Northern, Metal loving motorcyclist who enjoys horror, science fiction and history. (Because I’m a History teacher!)

What was your first work as a writer?

Point of Contact-a Sci-Fi chiller.

What are you working on right now?

Trying to get someone to publish my new work called ‘Passing It Along.’

Coffee, tea or wine?

Oooh. Coffee.

What is the worst and best part of the writing process?

Best part is finishing that script you’ve been working on and knowing you have created it. Worst part is trying to get people to buy said script.

Tell us a quote you love and why.

‘Never give up, never surrender.’ (Galaxy Quest.) Because I often do feel like giving up.

What is your life’s philosophy?

Shit can only get better.

Tell us about your work, which titles you have published and where to find them?

I’ve published four novels (The Prophecy Trilogy featuring a musical demon called Minstrel)

‘Point of Contact’ (an urban chiller concerning strange murders involving people being burned to ashes, set in Newcastle) as well as a short story anthology entitled ‘A Hatful of Shadows-10 tales of darkness and horror’.

As well as this I’ve been featured in various anthologies including ‘It came from the garage’ (alongside Stephen King, I’ll have you know,) ‘Shadows and Teeth Volume 3’, and ‘Postcards from the Void’. All of these feature stories by Guy N Smith too.

What is a mistake you wouldn’t make again as a writer?

Trying to get my stories out there too quickly. I’ve learned the art of editing until I can edit no more. I have had to go back over a few of my books and they still are not as good as I would want them. Edit, edit, edit!

Batman or Spiderman?

Batman.

If you found a winning lottery ticket, what is the first thing you would do?

Found or won? If I found it I would probably hand it in, that’s how square I am. If I won it I would take a long holiday and decide what to do with the rest of it.

What inspires you?

Eternal hope that one day, my writing might make me enough money to live off. That hope is fading every year though. So I suppose what inspires me is to write what I want to write, because not to do it would be a betrayal to myself.

What do you love?

I love people who help people. I try to spread the word about review sites, other writers etc as much as possible. I love it when someone is successful, especially doing something they love.

What do you hate?

Selfish people. Shit drivers. Horses. And Tory politicians.

Where can readers find you?
