DARK POETRY – “I am Solitude” by Tina McFarlane

I’ve been trying to avoid this place
you know the one
the one that feels so dark and small
that you think you can’t breathe?

Where the longer you stay
the smaller you become
until you think you are just a memory

It should terrify me
this place
that cancels out all noise
screaming its silence
wrapping all it touches
in its quiet

But it’s in this quiet
this smallness
that I discover it

When distraction is dimmed
and I am left alone
to face that mirror of myself

I’m okay

I will find comfort
in my fear
I will find strength
in my fragility

I will let it hold me close
until I am ready

to let it go
