Horror movies from the 1980s had a special kind of flare. The Changeling is just one of those types of movies. Now, of course the newer horror is all the rage, but venture back a bit. There was a time when horror told more story and left more to the imagination. That is what makes this movie special.

George C. Scott plays a music professor who ends up staying in a vacant mansion. The tragedy that leads to his stay is the death of his wife and daughter. Soon after he moves in, he starts to notice strange things occurring in the home. Noises, whispers, and one of his daughter’s toys bounces down the stairs on its own. He soon starts an investigation into the home and discovers tragedy and betrayal. With the help of a local friend, played by Trish Van Devere, he unravels the mystery that was buried many years ago.

This story speaks to those who want to use their imagination. There is no bucket of blood or slashers. It is truly a tale of greed, murder and power. The main character is grieving from his own loss. In addition, he is suddenly being harassed by an entity that is unsettled and needs retribution.
