“I don’t think I’ve ever had to put my foot down on a set in a way that I had to on Wednesday,

If Wednesday Addams wasn’t iconic enough, the Netflix’s series WEDNESDAY has skyrocketed Jenna Ortega’s career, as the star of the project. She earned nominations for Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award.

In a recent podcast episode on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast she stated that “Everything that she (Wednesday) does, everything that I had to play, did not make sense for her character at all.”

She didn’t agree with her being involved in a love triangle or all the romantic aura surrounding the teenager.

“There was a line about, like, a dress that she has to wear for a school dance, and she said, ‘Oh, my God, I love it. Ugh, I can’t believe I said that. I literally hate myself.’ And I had to go, ‘No, there’s no way.’”

She even admits to having gone unprofessional at a times: “There was times on that set where I even became almost unprofessional in a sense, where I just started changing lines. The script supervisor thought that, like, I was going with something, and then I would have to sit down with the writers, and they would be like, ‘Wait, what happened to the scene?’ And I would have to go through and explain why I couldn’t do certain things.”

She also had a problem with the kid’s iconic dance, which was supposed to be a flash mob, but it didn’t make any sense to her:

“Initially, it was supposed to be a flash mob, and she was supposed to start dancing, and everyone was supposed to pick up on it and start dancing with her. And that, I vetoed, because why would she be okay with that?” the actor explained. “Well, I said, ‘Either cut it or have Wednesday knock someone out, and then it’s done.’”

She explained how the perception of the show would affect her:

“On Wednesday, there was not a scene in that show that I went home and was like, Okay, that should be fine, ow a lot of people know me from that. It’s not my proudest moment internally, which, I think, also adds an extra level of insecurity and stress,” she states, “Because it’s like, no, I’m finally getting these offers to these places that I want, but I don’t want to be known specifically for that.”

The controversy about these declarations has gone through the screens right to the production industry since some well-known names have something to say about her explaining these experiences to the audience. Some of them call it “throwing the team under the bus”.

However, she has been confirmed to follow through on Season 2, not only as a main role but as an executive producer. It seems her words didn’t get under their skins in the end, and overall helped improve the project and push her career! Now, that’s how you do it!
