The Ruins – 2008

Synopsis

A leisurely Mexican holiday takes a turn for the worse when a group of friends and a fellow tourist embark on a remote archaeological dig in the jungle, where something evil lives among the ruins.

When 4 friends embark on a last-minute trek to an ancient pyramid in Mexico, things go horribly wrong.

Amy, Stacey, Eric and Jeff are having the time of their life. Hanging out on the beach, partying and doing what most young people do when they want to relax. But when a sudden opportunity arrives to visit an ancient ruin, suddenly they are on their way.

With two guides to help them find the way, there are small hints here and there that serve as a warning. In the first place, the driver didn’t want to take them to the ruins. Next, the path to the site is covered and lastly, when they arrive, the locals are not happy. Unfortunately, none of these young people speaks their language. Soon enough, when one of the guides is killed, they are forced up the pyramid and into a horror that no one could have expected.

The Ruins has some great gore scenes and suspense. These young people are trying to stay alive, but their situation deteriorates the longer they are at the pyramid. This movie is worth the watch at least once. The man versus nature backdrop of this film makes it worthwhile.
