FLASH TERROR 250 Contest – “4:42am” by Jordan Harris

Have you ever had a dream that felt real? So real that when you woke up you swore it actually happened? I awoke to a knocking sound, looked around the room, but saw nothing out of the ordinary. This was made all the worse because I was home alone as my parents had gone to pick up my sister, Kaly, from college. I laid my head back down but the knocking sound got me back up. I lifted my head up again, rubbing my eyes. I turned to look at my clock and saw that it was 4:42am. I turned back and saw my father standing perfectly still in the middle of my room. He was pale and his eyes were glazed over. He was shaking and looked wet, like he’s been stood out in the rain. He opened his mouth and said, “Mom or Kaly.” I froze and had no idea what he was talking about. “Choose”, he said in a slow monotone voice. “Kaly”, I blurted out, not having a clue what question I was answering. He then disappeared, and after I felt a shiver down my spine, I went back to sleep. I woke up to my cell ringing at 7:00am. It was my aunt telling me my family crashed their car over a bridge and into a river. My Father died instantly, and it was touch and go for my Mom and sister. Kaly ended up surviving but my Mom died . . . at 4:42am.
