EVERYBODY DIES BY THE END: Movie Review By Matt Boiselle

Starring: Vinny Curran, Brendan Calahan, Iliyana Apostolova

Directed by: Ian Tripp & Ryan Schafer

Some artists have that innate sense of “weirdness” which ultimately puts them in touch with their inner creative self – few are grounded while others have completely left the parking lot of sanity. While the latter could be viewed as a negative, in the case of EVERYBODY DIES BY THE END, it’s an absolute positive all the way around!

Co-directed by Ian Tripp & Ryan Schafer, this mockumentary is riddled with hilarious moments and shocking instances which all add up to an insanely fun watch. Alfred Costella (played to unconditional perfection by Vinny Curran) is a cult film director that’s been recently lambasted for his ultra-violent movies – the opening interview scene with he & industry paragon Bill Oberst, Jr is simply too funny for an accurate description. 10 years have passed since the unfortunate display on public TV, and Costella is raring and ready to construct his final film, so he contacts documentarian Calvin (played by Tripp) to lens him all the while the project is in motion. It doesn’t take long before Costella’s inner-kook has been released from its cage, and the results are disturbing, to say the least.

Backed by his “ride-or-die” crew members who refuse to see the man’s utter lunacy (almost like cult followers to their leader), this last-gasp exhibition has the chops to shock, amuse and entertain on a variety of levels. Flanked by his faithful assistants Grant (Calahan), Laura (Caroline Amiguet) Howard (Schafer) & star actress, Allison (Apostolova), it’s a wonderfully-bereft crew that will stand by their director until the bitter end…which at this rate shouldn’t take long to approach. The performances are balanced, campy in spots, but ultimately adding a fun measurement to this movie that from an outsider’s look, might come off as too dark – fear not – this one’s got all the bells & whistles to keep the audience intact. I mean, we all didn’t come here just to watch Costella’s final piece of celluloid fall flat, did we?

EVERYBODY DIES BY THE END is an absolutely fun-time from start to finish, giving the term “mockumentary” a concrete backbone – give it a watch when it hits VOD services on September 22nd.

At the tender age of 6, Matt was indoctrinated into the horror genre by his mother, who asked him to sit down and watch "The Exorcist" with her - ever since then, it's been a blood-soaked, neon-lit, fever dream of an existence. "You don't make horror...horror makes you."
