DARK POETRY – “The executioner” by Tina McFarlane

As the noose tightens
don’t judge me
It was consequences
that put you here

You’re innocent you say?
Do you know how many
like you I’ve hung?
Every man is innocent
when his neck’s ready
to be hanging by the rope

But give him a chance
and he will return
to the very life
that put him here

That’s why my conscience’s clear

And as you place
the rope around my neck
I hope that yours is too
