I’m surrounded by words
As the world goes dark
As thoughts slumber
Night creatures awake
I’m surrounded by words
As the sky nurtures dawn
And the sun carves a hole
Through the fading stars
I’m surrounded by words
As people rush as people do
Meetings late and coffee cold
Too pressed for a morning kiss
I’m surrounded by words
As days turn to years
And years turn to age
And memory struggles
To hold on…
I’m surrounded by words
On that day when another’s words
Speaks of me with sadness
And fond remembrance
