Sweden’s Imminence

A reel of the song “Desolation” from this alternative metalcore band popped up on my IG feed one day, and I was hooked. Lead singer Eddie Berg is an incredible vocalist and also an accomplished violinist. Now, the use of violins in metal is nothing new but as someone who studied and played as a kid, I have to give props to anyone who can go between growls and clean vocals while playing. And he makes it look effortless.

I also have to give props to the band as a whole. Their synergy is amazing and comes as no surprise. Eddie and guitarist Harald Barrett have known each other since high school. The band also manages all aspects of their brand. You can read their story here.

Their first album was 2014’s I and they will be touring North America for the first time later this year.

One of the coolest things about any band is their ability to transition between song styles. Imminence does this in spades, and you only have to go to their YouTube channel to see the diversity in their music, from the opening screams and hard riffs of “Temptation” to the heart-breaking “A Mark on My Soul” and the acoustic version of “This Is Goodbye”. I think this band offers something for everyone.

The same thing can be said for their videos and it was hard to pick just a few. I chose “The Seventh Seal”, their second single released in 2014, 2021’s “Live in S:t Nicolai” (which opens with “Erase”, one of my favourite songs) and the full version of “Desolation”.

I’m always looking for new bands to check out. If you have one that you’d like me to feature, leave me a comment.
