STORAGE LOCKER: Movie Review By Matt Boiselle

Starring: Mike Gassaway, Bobbie Grace, Meredyth Fowler

Directed by: Ray Spivey

Collectors of certain items can be some of the most rabid souls walking the planet – whatever their particular fancy may be (baseball cards, autographs, coins), they can almost come to a possessed state when closing in on that one special piece that’s eluded them. In the case of Dan Spivey’s STORAGE LOCKER, we’ll see how far a young man will stoop to wrap his mitts around an item that may have just caused the fracture of his relationship…and mind.

The film follows Packer (Mayo), whose obsession with comic books has sent his relationship with his fiancée into a tailspin – he got lumped up by a couple of thugs during a “seller’s meetup” when he thought he’d be purchasing a highly sought-out edition. Added to which, the money he brought to buy the comic came straight out of he & his potential-bride’s honeymoon savings…and I thought I did some dumb things during my marriage. After he’s given the boot by his gal (Hannah Hufford), Packer latches onto a “collector’s group” run by a duo of peculiar sisters that definitely have more on their plate than just an adoration for comics – their storage area is the stuff of nightmares and Packer’s going to have to deal with MUCH more than overeager buyers in order to claim his end-goal and save his failing engagement.

With numerous instances of humor, frights and all out bemusement, STORAGE LOCKER comes off as one of those films that resembles one pot in the kitchen, with about 10 chefs around it, all throwing in their own ingredients. The problem with this is that by the time the movie lugs into its latter stages, you’re left scratching your skull at which way you should be directing your attention. All isn’t lost in this containment unit of catastrophe – acting is very well done on a multitude of levels and the atmosphere itself helps in giving the story (and its cluster of plot paths) some vitality, and even aids in some of the scares as well.

Overall, I can give STORAGE LOCKER a passing grade due to its “all over the place” format – aside from the confusion at times it is a fun film to dive into, especially if you are one of those rampant & raving hoarders of horrific holdings – watch & enjoy!

At the tender age of 6, Matt was indoctrinated into the horror genre by his mother, who asked him to sit down and watch "The Exorcist" with her - ever since then, it's been a blood-soaked, neon-lit, fever dream of an existence. "You don't make horror...horror makes you."
