J.R. Bookwalter’s cult classic ROBOT NINJA

Los Angeles, CA – In 1989, J.R. Bookwalter and a rag tag crew released their film ROBOT NINJA into the world. A low budget feature shot in Ohio for $15,000 with David DeCoteau credited as a executive producer, ROBOT NINJA would be released on VHS and very quickly that VHS went out of print. Home Video Media Collectors would eventually keep ROBOT NINJA into fading to obscurity, the VHS edition became highly sought out and highly valuable in Collector Circles. In 2019, J.R. Bookwalter revisited his film, by restoring and releasing a Special Edition Blu-ray and comic book.

Now, in 2024, Encyclopocalypse Publications maintains their commitment to preserving cinematic genre history through novelizations with their release of ROBOT NINJA: THE NOVELIZATION on October 8^th, 2024.

Taking on the adaptation was author Damien Casey, known for fantastically entertaining splatter filled books such as Hot Pink Satanism, Coffin Dodger, and most recently Night of the Bubbies. Damien’s sharp wit and sense of humor, as well as his love of comic books, made him the perfect author to handle the adaptation of J.R. Bookwalter’s script.

“ROBOT NINJA stands as a metaphor for toxic fandom and the obsession of creators,” Damien says. “Plus, it’s about a robot ninja, and that’s badass.”

Sean Duregger, Managing Editor of Encyclopocalypse Publications, had approached J.R. Bookwalter with the idea of novelizing his films. “I have been a fan of J.R. Bookwalter since the day I saw The Dead Next Door. When I watched Robot Ninja, that only increased my love of his films. When J.R. agreed to this project, I knew Damien was the only author who’d be able to bring out the humor of ROBOT NINJA but at the same time honoring our love of J.R.’s films.”

There are two versions available: a standard Trade size and a pocket sized Mass Market version reflecting the publisher’s love of novelizations from the 80s and early 90s.
