Who is Lee Franklin ?

Lee Franklin is your regular wife and mother of three boys. Lee Franklin also enjoys getting her writing soaked in blood and gore.

What was your favourite book as a kid?

Enid Blyton… Mr Galliano’s Circus.

If you found a winning lottery ticket, what is the first thing you would do?

Found? Try to find out who the owner could be. If I couldn’t find them, then I would enjoy my good luck. Karma has a way with stuff like this and I like to be able to sleep well at night.

What is your favourite band ever?

Crikey, that is a tough one. I would have to say ACDC

Where did you get the idea, the seed, for Berserker?

The idea for Berserker came out for a sub call with a theme of dreams. With my background I thought I could write one for PTSD nightmarese involving a veteran. But then my “What ifs?” got the better of me and it grew before I could stop it.

What is your advice for new authors, or what is the mistake you would avoid, looking back in time?

Surround yourself with honest people and don’t be scared to reach UP for help.  Always pay it forward.

Coffee or wine?

That is really not fair, at all!!! Coffee I guess, because this engine doesn’t start without it.

Which is the book you cannot put down?

Soo many books. Sheesh I just finished reading Zachary Ashford’s Sole Survivor

What is the best and the worst of the writing process?

The best is definitely coming up with the ideas, I love just rattling out first drafts. The worst? Positioning commas and marketing for sure.

Ironman or Hellboy?

Coffee and Wine would be so much easier right now. I am a massive fan of the  MCU Ironman. But, Hellboy is so much more like my characters. Flawed and reluctant heroes.

Do you have a message for your readers?

I appreciate you taking a chance on my work, and if you love it please spread the word.

Zombies or demons?

Demons for sure. I have a strong interest in theology so I find them so much more fascinating. I’ve tried a few Zombie books and films, but demons definitely do it for me.

Do you like poetry or graphic art? If so, do you have a favourite one?

All my sons love comic books, so I would have to go with graphic art or risk getting thrown out of the house.

Which kind of horror do you like for your own enjoyment?

I really enjoy fast paced “popcorn horror”.  I love action and monsters.

Where do you find inspiration?

I really enjoy watching movies and although I was a massive bookworm growing up I never read horror specifically until I started writing it. I do find myself inspired by different things all the time. It can be a picture, a character, history channel or just a question my kids ask. What ifs? Are awesome writing fodder.

What scares you the most?

Any harm coming to my husband and sons.

What is the greatest challenge you have overcome?

Writing wise… imposter syndrome, it freezes me. Then I procrastinate and the circle continues.

What would you tell a reader that has still not started one of your books?

Be careful when you pick it up, you may not be able to put it down until the end.  – I wish.

More likely, I hope you enjoy it.

If you ended up on a deserted island, what two items would you want to have with you (beyond water and food)?

A hatchet and a companion. Animal preferably, human if I must.

Choose a superpower.

My superpower would be communicating with animals.

Where can readers find you?

Readers can find me on Twitter  @Wordpilmgrim, Insta @leefrank1979 and Facebook

Who is/are your biggest supporter/s?

My biggest supporter would definitely be my husband and fellow horror writer D.J Doyle. My son’s have been an excellent cheering squad. I also have many writer friends in the community that I can rely on. Eric Butler, Joe X Young and Dave Watkins to name a few.

Pineapple on pizza?

Yes …. Don’t shoot me.

Are you a day or night person?

Definitely a day person. Nighttime I crash and burn come 10pm.

Have you always been a writer?

I’ve always been a reader. I always wrote bits and wanted to be a journalist until my high school teacher told me I didn’t stand a chance. Cliché but true. I gave up on it and expressed myself in words privately. My husband encouraged me and I had an awesome idea. Then life happened. It has only been these last few years I have been able to put words down on a page, I have never felt more truly myself in doing so. I still haven’t written that awesome idea, but I will one day.

What is your favourite quote?

It is not how many times you get knocked over. It is how many times you stand back up.

If an apocalypse broke loose, what is the first thing you would do?

Organise my family to secure the perimeter.

Do you have new projects going on?

Yes, I am in the rewriting stages of my sequel to Nang Tani. Rak Ruex should be due out before Christmas 21  I am also half way through my sequel to Berserker; Green Hell.

Is there anything else you’d want to tell our audience?

Just be awesome.

Thank you so much for your time!
