What is it about Tokyo that keeps you going back there time after time to wreck it, to tear it down like you do? I want to understand, my darling Gojira. Is it a hatred, a compulsion maybe? Do you wake from terrible dreams with the city’s name on your lips?

It was impressive when you leveled the town the first time, but when you obliterate the same city over and over it just looks like you’re afraid to try something new. Like you have no ambition. I believe in you, baby. It’s everyone else that needs to see what you can do.

Is there another woman that draws you, breath flaming, scales atwitter? Is that it? Is the destruction all a cover-up – something to divert attention away from your indiscretion? Look at me; I’m crushing your power station, not cheating on my significant other.

Does she make you so crazy that you feel like knocking down a few buildings just to show off to her? Is she the type that’s impressed by a fleeing populace and a stymied army?

I woke in the middle of the night and you were gone. The bed seems so big without you there. You told me you went jogging, but I could smell Tokyo on your clothes, on your breath. I knew you were lying to me.

What is it about Tokyo? If it’s not a big deal, take me with you next time and show me why you love it and hate it. Why you embrace it and push it away. Take me with you and we’ll smash tanks and topple skyscrapers together.
