Dark Poetry – ‘Wounded Healing’ by Tina McFarlane

It’s your face I see
when I look in the mirror
my own reflection is nothing
but a ghost

I have mastered the art
of concealment
ignoring the pain
that has made me numb

Though I’m alone
the tallies on my skin
remind me that you are still
as much a part of me as breathing

and I am left gasping

would it be easier?

no

never

so, I bare my arms
bare my soul
let my scars heal

and try to breathe on my own

waiting for the day
when I can look in a mirror
and see only my own face
looking back at me
