Dark Poetry – “The Mountain Before Me” by Tina McFarlane

And into the shadows I climb
scale and scratch
fingers bloodied
creating ink wells of my soul
vibrant hues of inspiration
muddied with strokes of doubt

I scrawl on a canvas
of life and death and breathing
of dreams and despair and
maybe a little good fortune

Fingers grab at crevices
that both save me from falling
and pain to the touch

Will it be my journey to climb up
and view the world from Olympus?

Or fall and let life flash before
I hit the bottom?
