Dark Poetry – “Rose” by Tina McFarlane

tbm horror - rose by tine macfarlane - dark poetry

“My love is like a red, red rose”
No, my dear poet
it burns
like the embers of a fire
long after the flames have died

It’s cruel in its beauty
with petals soft
and thorns that tear the heart
of its intended

It’s but a lapse in judgement
brought on by too much desire
and not enough wisdom

Love, like your rose, lives but a moment
but its fragrance lingers
and my mind will no longer accept it
for my soul can no longer bear it

No, my dear poet
leave me here
in the protection of my solitude
and save your words

Let love be for those who
are foolish enough to strive for it
and brave enough to believe

For I am too tired to carry that faith anymore
