Dark poetry – Cruelty of the human heart by Philip Rogers

Your bitter words strike with weight and anger

Whilst cold eyes penetrate the silence

Cutting far deeper than a blade

Scarred, but no wound remains

Like a mole, words burrow deep in my mind

The fortress once locked is now open

Your smile reflects a game well played

As hopes banished from within

Fear driven conscience persuades me to stay

Open doors are no exit to leave

Whilst I choke on my denial

You gorge on your power
