BOOK REVIEW – My BFF Satan by Kyle Rader – An amazing combination of humour and macabre. @YourOldPalKile

OK, this is fun. From the very first page to the last one.

I started this book when I was waiting at the doctor’s office, and I laughed out loud with the “dubious promiscuity of the pig’s blood” they used for the spell. Then I looked around and everyone was looking at me. It was worth it.

From that moment, you don’t stop laughing.

The author’s imagination is extraordinaire, when I advanced in the book, I thought that I could have never come up with such original ideas.

Characters are so, so realistic, and the description of the demons is as funny as disturbing. He narrates it with ease, so it’s really pleasurable to read.

I think this book is for many kinds of readers really. Comedy, thriller, horror, fantasy… it’s just right for a wide spectrum of tastes in genres.

The story is dynamic with a few turns you don’t expect.

I loved Satan’s build-up. He’s a grumpy fish out of the tank and the personality is worked in depth by the author. With different layers of emotions that might even surprise himself.

I have the feeling he must have had a lot of “delete-rewrite” scenes with him.

The book grabbed me from the first paragraph, you smile and even try to hold back laughing several times. I honestly think you’re going to enjoy it and it’s going to bring some little fun into your day.

An amazing combination of humour and macabre. I recommend it, without a doubt.

Synopsis

Everyone needs a friend

Something is wrong in Hell.

A mysterious ritual gone awry has bound Satan to the soul of the very ordinary and very confused Mikaela, latching onto her on the day she was born.

The Devil and Mikaela are not the best of friends, he, being a fallen angel consumed by never-dying flames, her being an awkward lesbian dominatrix unable to maintain a relationship.

His powers greatly diminished and unable to return home, Satan and Mikaela settle into a cease-fire as they try to maintain the semblance of a “normal” life while investigating the magic spell that binds them together.

After a chance encounter with a dark sorcerer reveals a possible counter-spell that will separate them and with their future in the balance and a conspiracy of rather irritated demon-bureaucrats and ancient sorcery closing in on them, the unlikely duo must decide to work together to prevent the total destruction of the entire universe.
