Now that the holidays are done, let’s get back to horror. The Manor is an interesting watch that I stumbled upon during one of my channel surfing days. This film stars Barbara Hershey, as Judith, a grandmother who falls in and is diagnosed with having a mild stroke. She doesn’t want to be burden to the family and ends up going to an elegant nursing home. From the moment she arrives, one can tell that there is something not quite right. You are lead to believe that some of the residents are in the different stages of Alzheimer’s and dementia. Hence, you feel they are not quite in their right mind.
Judith, who is pretty sharp character, starts to have suspicions as certain developments take place. One of the most important being that communication between the residents and their loved ones is limited. Judith begins her own investigation and makes a startling discovery. Soon she is the target of malicious behavior that has been carried out for years at the home. You are left wondering will Judith survive and overcome the evil, or will she be one of the many escorted out with a toe tag?
As a backdrop to everything else that is happening in this film. There is the story of the relationship between Judith and her grandson, Josh. They are very close so when things first started happening, you felt that this teen had more to lose in seeing his grandmother go away to this nursing home. The parents are almost a secondary to him, which is very intriguing.
